4th Learning Log, Hongye, 2RSP (28)
Tuesday. Were a disasterous day for people who didn't do their literature essay. They were told to stand for the whole lessons, as they didn't hand up their essay on time. Followed on, we were about to learn the meaning of Irony. There's 4 main type of Irony, which is basically categorised in 4 different groups. Verbal Irony, Situational Irony, Dramatic Irony and lastly, Tragic Irony. However, we only learnt verbal, situational and dramatic irony.
Verbal irony is a deliberate comment of what you do not mean. In other words, it's a sarcasm comment we made nastily to mock at a person or a thing. For example, Mr Chua 'said' that he is handsome, however, he do not mean that, he is actually wanting to said it like a joke and make us laugh. Which failed, and we had to entertain him by laughing.
Situational irony is that there is a difference between expected and actual results. For example, in Romeo and Juliet, the readers or audience will normally think that in the end, Romeo will be together with Juliet and live together forever after. But unexpectedly, Romeo thought that Juliet is dead and eventually, he killed himself by drinking the poisonous potion. There was a situational irony as the result of the whole story was different from what the reader or audience expected.
Dramatic irony exists when a character in a literary or dramatic work perceives a situation in a limited way while the reader or audience is aware of a greater significance. For example, also in Romeo and Juliet, the readers or audience know exactly what happened. But Romeo didn't know that Juliet had actually taken a potion which makes her appear to be died, or rather to be sleeping for a very long time. Then, Romeo thought that Juliet is died, and he committed suicide. Being a reader or audience, we'll normally felt sad for Romeo and Juliet, because Romeo is unaware about the situation and this had led to a huge change in the whole story. The audience or reader will felt very agitated and wonder why Romeo would not want to wait for a long while? And both of them could be together. However, these are not under our control.
Irony can be used to expose pretence and self-deception in mankind, and show up in an amusing way. It can also be used to express anger in the form of fierce or wounding criticism that arouses the reader's indignation or anger. It also shows the tragedy or sadness of a situation.

Last week, We were ordered to be split into our performing groups. And i was in Delta. Since there is this H1N1 viruses going around, therefore, we weren't allowed to be in a huge group of something. Mr Tyrus Chua then came out with this " Flying Tiger Formation" which ii couldn't make out which was which. After we had assembled in our "Flying Tiger Formation", we were told to take out our homework. The costumes design. There was this "Hall Of Fame" thing, that Mr Chua explained, only the one with the best design of both, will get to enter the "
Hall Of Fame". I admit i did it a day before, so it wasn't nicely done, unlike Vilynn's. So, I didn't manage to get into the "
Hall Of Fame". We were doing this for an whole period, as the formation thing took up quite some times.

We've all read books. Be it Harry Potter, Peter Pan, or X-Men. But I've never known that, there's so many views, in just writing a story. A First Person Subjective , means that The narrator is usually a major or minor character in the story, who reports the events as if they had just happened and who appears to be unaware of the full events. In this case, the reader knows more than the narrator.
A First Person Detached, means that the narrator is a major character in the story, who recalls the events from the vantage point of maturity. He has had time to reflect on the meaning of the events.
A First Person Observer, is a minor character in the story who plays roles of eyewitness and confidant. His sources of information are what he hears and sees and what the main character tells him.
A Third Person Omniscient, is an anonymous person outside the story, who is a "GOD" in this sense that he knows what ever is going to happen next. He not only reports what the characters do and say, but also enters the minds of the character and comments on their actions.
A Third Person Objective is an anonymous person who reports only what the characters say and do. Thoughts of characters can only be expressed as dialogue.
We were than told to do a piece of worksheet. The narrative techniques used in The Unseen, was the first person subjectives. The disadvantages of this Writing techniques is that the narrator know less than the reader, therefore, we have to gather up infromation on our own from the passage.

First literature Learning Log
Our first lesson, was all about filing, and the distribution of roles, among our group. I was in Group Delta. I've gotten the role of Shylock. Shylock, may seems bad. Actually, it all depends on the perspective that the person is viewing. If the person is standing at the perspective of Antonio, Shylock was in the Fault. But in Shylock's view, He, wasn't in the least of fault. He was just trying to claim what he is suppose to have. Therefore, to be handling such a role, for the first time, especially with such a long script to remember, i was really afraid. Shylock was quite a racist guy, so i have to use a really sarcastic tone when talking to the other role-playing member. Our group, took pride in choosing Dean as the director, because we are sure that, he , will surely lead us , and make sure that we do our work properly. He has a very strong sense of responsibility, which none of us could actually compare with him, it was really too strong. We had already decided on which scene we're going to act out, therefore, we settled down really quickly. Dean has also prepared crops like dagger, robes, and hats, including crowns. Most of us had already started to memorised the script, as Dean told us to memorised it before schools starts, during the June Holidays. So, i'm proud to say, that we are, more ready than the rest of the teams. :D (246)
